Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

 

Responsible for approximately 80% delivery driver/warehouse/forklift duties and 20% administrative duties.  Driving responsibilities include pickup of containers to and/or from customer locations; providing an effective and incident free delivery or pickup of a container while maintaining excellent rapport with the customer.  Administrative duties include storage center operations, distribution of communications to staff, and route review when applicable.

 

This position offers Health/Dental Benefits and RRSP/DPSP Plan with company matching contributions after 3 months of service.

*Please note, this position requires working most Saturdays.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Involved in planning and printing daily routes prior to driver’s arrival; fulfill morning SOPs
  • May conduct daily pre shift meetings
  • Drive and operate a commercial truck with a patented lift mechanism to load and unload containers at customer sites in a safe manner by following all safety rules
  • Perform and log daily pre and post trip inspections of commercial vehicle and lift
  • Accept add-on deliveries as required to meet business needs
  • Use company handheld device for delivery verification and navigation
  • Meet all goals and metrics
  • Operate a forklift when needed
  • Clean and inspect containers to ensure they are presentable for delivery to customer
  • Communicate with the Market Manager on customer questions and/or issues; Prepare driver notes as needed
  • Perform repairs of containers and lifts in the field and at the storage centre
  • Provide backup for storage centre functions when needed
  • Maintain cleanliness of truck cab (keep free from debris inside and outside)
  • Review routes prior to daily deliveries
  • Distribute and/or Facilitate staff communication; Ensure communications reach all associates in the storage centre
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Commercial license – DZ or AZ (air brake endorsement required) to drive 5 ton truck.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience employed as driver performing delivery functions
  • Minimum of 6 months of service with organization as a Driver (or 6 months for re-certification)
  • Must maintain a current/valid driver license from the province in which position is assigned
  • Must have no moving violations during the past three (3) years (insurance requirement)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age (insurance requirement)
  • Possess a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (if applicable to licence held)
  • Hands on experience with electronic equipment and software
  • Possess math skills sufficient to perform required duties
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Ability frequently remain in stationary position for driving or operating forklift.
  • Ability to frequently ascend/descend cab of truck and forklift using three points of contact
  • Ability to frequently move about and position self frequently to operate equipment and deliver containers
  • Ability to occasionally move boxes weighing up to 50 lbs (22 kg)
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus; strong sense of spatial relations to park vehicle and negotiate tight spaces.
  • Ability to frequently use hands to write, use computer, operate a motor vehicle, operate equipment, use a handheld device, and manipulate documents
  • Ability to regularly apply up to 40 pounds (18kg) of pressure using a variety of motions including, but not limited to, pushing, pulling and lifting
  • Frequently required to read documents and write neatly, legibly and transcribe accurate information.
  • Ability to frequently communicate and exchange information with manager, co-workers and customers

 

 WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Shift start times may vary; Some additional hours may be required including Saturdays/Sundays; Required to work overtime as needed.
  • Travel requirements: Within Location Territory
  • Storage centres may not be climate controlled except for specific areas.
  • Regularly works around moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required
  • Subject to  pre-employment criminal background check in accordance with company policy
