JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for delivery and pickup of containers to and/or from customer locations; provide an effective and incident free delivery or pickup of a container while maintaining excellent rapport with the customer.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive and operate a truck with a patented lift mechanism to load and unload containers at customer sites
  • Accept add-on deliveries as required to meet business needs
  • Use company handheld computer for delivery verification and navigation
  • Operate a forklift and/or an overhead crane
  • Clean and inspect containers to ensure they are presentable for delivery to customer
  • Coordinate rental paperwork and payment with the customer
  • Communicate with the Driver Supervisor or Storage Centre Supervisor or Manager on customer questions and/or issues; Prepare driver notes as needed
  • Perform repairs of containers and lifts in the field and at the storage centre
  • Provide backup for storage centre functions when needed
  • Maintain cleanliness of truck cab (keep free from debris inside and outside)
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

  • Typically reports to Management. Direct supervisor job title(s) typically include: Assistant Territory Manager and/or Manager Storage Centre
  • Job is NOT directly responsible for managing other employees (e.g., hiring/termination and/or pay decisions, performance management)

Job Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Commercial license with air brake endorsement required to drive a dual axle truck weighing at least 4500 kilograms (5 tons)
  • Minimum of 3 months of service with organization as a Driver (or 6 months for re-certification)
  • Must maintain a current/valid driver license from the province in which position is assigned
  • Must have no moving violations during the past three (3) years (insurance requirement)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age (insurance requirement)
  • Previous computer or hand held device experience desired
  • Possess math skills sufficient to perform required duties
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer for up to 8 hours a day; Ability to use hands and fingers to type on a keyboard and use a mouse to navigate; Vision sufficient to view small details on a computer monitor
  • Regularly required to sit; Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; Reach with hands and arms and talk and hear
  • Ability to stand and walk up to 8 hours a day; ability to stoop, bend and lift boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to hear and verbally communicate using a telephone handset and/or connected headset device

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Shift start times may vary; Some additional hours may be required including Saturdays/Sundays; Required to work overtime as needed.
  • Travel requirements: Within Location Territory
  • Storage Centres are climate controlled. Deliveries made in all weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required
  • May be subject to pre-employment criminal background.
