Job Description

The Manager of Safety is expected to design, develop, implement, and maintain an effective countrywide safety program, fleet safety program and ensuring that safety programs are in place to ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations or statutes and all related standards or other accrediting agencies with the objective of promoting general and fleet safety. The position will be responsible for enhancing the fleet and safety quality, education and training programs with a focus on minimizing loss, mitigating injury and preventing loss to the assets of the company. In addition, this position will serve as a liaison with operations, leadership, internal department directors and external agencies including regulatory agencies, insurance carriers and third party entities.
  • Responsible for compliance, including records maintenance, with relevant laws and regulations in all areas of fleet and general safety including assessment, identification, development and implementation of policies and procedures throughout the organization to reduce risks
  • Develop, implement and maintain loss leader exposure identification and all levels of safety training
  • Develop, implement and maintain safety communication for corporate and field
  • Respond to federal and state regulatory agency complaints/inspections/informal conferences
  • Oversee internal programs and policies, including CDL and CSA monitoring, drug and alcohol program compliance, maintain roadside inspection document and compliance.
  • Analyze data and develop metrics to pinpoint and communicate significant losses for management attention
  • Oversee accident investigations, record keeping and document discovery
  • Build and maintain quality working relationships with third party service providers, operations and regional/field leadership, executive leadership, law enforcement and other loss prevention professionals
  • Laisse with legal department preparation of cases for presentation to local law enforcement and prosecuting agencies.
  • Research and help deploy state-of-the-art technology solutions and equipment to safeguard the organization’s assets, customers and employees
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience Requirements
  • Ability to interpret complex laws and regulations
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience required
  • Safety Certification (CSP, GSP) preferred
  • Transportation safety experience preferred
  • CIT Certification preferred
  • Bi-Lingual helpful
  • Ability to interpret complex laws and regulations
  • Strong knowledge of safety risk assessment techniques
  • High-level analytical skills with exceptional follow-up and sense of urgency
  • Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in computer technology
