Job Description


The Engineer III- Systems is expected to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of infrastructure systems that supports core organizational functions; complete routine assignments and/or project tasks. This role provides operational support for authentication, monitoring, messaging and collaboration systems; servers, storage and data protection systems and is responsible for implementation, installation and configuration for new and existing networking and systems environments; along with the administration, support and documentation for these environments. Must be able to recognize and respond to complex and non-routine issues, and plan and lead large scale, complex assignments. Additionally, this role is responsible for the evaluation of systems and assisting with determining future needs to create and drive improvements of infrastructure technology, processes and standards.



  • Serve as technical lead for large, complex projects to provide new or improved infrastructure services.
  • Provide high-level user (3rd level) support via a variety of methods and provide technical expertise to users by verbal and /or written means. Act as an escalation point for technical issues as required.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system and application issues, including network hardware, network connectivity, and system logs and alerts, as appropriate
  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and connectivity, including network servers, routers, switches, wireless access points, and firewalls, as appropriate
  • Research and resolve hardware and software problems with vendors
  • Plan and coordinate network growth
  • Lead and promote the use of and offer improvements for departmental processes such as change management, incident management and problem management.
  • Participate in performance appraisals and disciplinary actions for Systems Engineers, in conjunction with the Senior Manager, IT Infrastructure
  • Provide on-call support for server and network systems as necessary
  • Provide IT Help Desk Support, Troubleshooting and Maintenance and Training
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field desired; or equivalent work experience.
  • 4 - 7 years of system administrator or engineer experience in an enterprise with increasing responsibilities.
  • Microsoft Certifications such as MCSE is preferred
  • Cisco Certifications such as CCNE, CCNA, or CCIE are preferred
  • Experience in implementing secure measures within hosting architectures (e.g. firewalls, IDS, VPNs, OS hardening, Anti-Virus, and Vulnerability)
  • Strong inter-networking troubleshooting and problem solving experience in a large scale network environment
  • Advanced skill and hands-on system and network administration experience with the following technologies: Windows Server exchange, NT, Citrix Server, Cisco Routers, TCP/IP Networking, Disaster Recovery, expertise with LAN network administration; administer routers and Ethernet switches. Windows Load-Balancing, Clustering; Blackberry; strong knowledge of wireless network
  • Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable contributor both individually and as a member of the team
  • Possess math skills sufficient to perform required duties


  • Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer for up to 8 hours a day; Ability to use hands and fingers to type on a keyboard and use a mouse to navigate; Vision sufficient to view small details on a computer monitor
  • Ability to stand and walk up to 8 hours a day; ability to stoop, bend and lift boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to hear and verbally communicate using a telephone handset and/or connected headset device


  • Regular business hours.  Some additional hours may be required.
  • Travel requirements:  Approximately less than 10%
  • Climate-controlled office environment during normal business hours.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required
