Job Description


The Business Intelligence Developer is a data expert and works primarily with databases and different type of software.  The BI developer role has a broad set of software development, analytical, and report/dashboard development skills. 

A significant amount of the BI developer’s time is dedicated to the researching and planning of solutions to existing challenges within the company.  This includes the building of OLAP databases, relational database development and design, ETL development, and KPI/report/dashboard development.


  • A Business Intelligence thought leader
  • Designs data pipelines to transform and manipulate raw business data into reportable, actionable information through high quality Power BI reports.
  • Contributes to internal BI needs to improve transparency and accountability across the business
  • Conduct dimensional analyses
  • Design, code, test, and aggregate results from SQL queries to provide information to users or to support analysts
  • Create technical documents to document SQL Server, PostgreSQL or other database content, concepts, and mapping between databases. This includes cloud based sources.
  • Plays a central role in the creation, implementation and management of data models
  • Responsible for designing and implementing new BI solutions
  • A key player in setting technical direction for the implementation of requirements
  • Mentors other members of the Development Team on the techniques, use and visualization of data
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned


  • This role does not have direct supervisor responsibilities.

While reporting to a business intelligence manager, the BI developer may be a member of a self-directed team which may have a team lead position that organizes the tasks.

Job Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field highly desired
  • 7+ years of experience employing data warehouse principles and theories, including knowledge of the various tactical approaches to data warehouse development
  • Advanced to Expert level skills in every area of the Microsoft BI Stack (or other BI equivalent): SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, T-SQL, Stored Procedures
  • Experience developing and optimizing high throughput ETL processes using SSIS
  • Experience with report/dashboard design and working knowledge of a reporting suite such as SSRS and data visualization tools: Excel Services, PowerBI, PowerPivot, Tableau
  • Understanding of database modeling and design principles and ability to use and create data model diagrams
  • Previous ERP experience preferred (Oracle ERP, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, NetSuite)
  • This role requires strong verbal and written communications, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Solid ability to develop and design ETL procedures using SSIS, stored procedures, as well as any other appropriate computer language or skill set.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistics and the ability to use statistics to communicate
  • Advanced skills in data cleansing and data preparation.
  • The ability to communicate the value of data driven decision making countering opinion driven.
  • A working undertraining of the principles of big data
  • Experience desired with Hadoop, big table or other big data technologies
  • Experience desired with Linux as well as windows
  • Experience desired writing software in python, JavaScript, Go, R, C#, or java.
  • Experience desired writing queries and creating data structure in hive, Presto, or Spark on Hadoop
  • Experience desired with, and understanding of both data science techniques and principles.
  • 4-6+ years’ experience in advanced analytics architecture, deployment and support.
  • 4-6+ years’ experience in leading data architecture, data mining, data modeling and data reporting teams.
  • Experience with business intelligence design, tools and reporting.
  • Experience implementing data management processes, procedures, data quality management and decision support.
  • Knowledgeable in current technology and industry trends.
  • Ability to translate complex technical topics into easily understandable concepts.
  • Ideal candidates would be competent in: enterprise repository tools, data modeling tools, ETL data mapping tools, middleware services, and data profiling tools.


  • Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer for up to 8 hours a day; Ability to use hands and fingers to type on a keyboard and use a mouse to navigate; Vision sufficient to view small details on a computer monitor
  • Ability to stand and walk up to 8 hours a day; ability to stoop, bend and lift boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to hear and verbally communicate using a telephone handset and/or connected headset device


  • Regular business hours. Some additional hours may be required.
  • Travel requirements: Negligible
  • Climate-controlled office environment during normal business hours.
